Red Current is slightly more sour than its relative the blackcurrant, and is cultivated mainly for jams and cooked dishes. These require a cold Winter and can be grown in areas that may be too wet and shady for other fruit. This variety is an upright deciduous shrub, typically growing 1.0 – 1.5m in height, sometimes up to 2.0m Likes a full sun to part shade position. See our Ribes - Currant Factsheet here for more about the different Currant varieties!

Ulmus parvifolia

The bark of the Chinese Elm is a real stand out feature, as the tree sheds it in patches, creating the effect of a tapestry of varying browns and greys. Foliage is lush, shiny and green, and the tree is semi deciduous, turning golden in autumn, and keeping its leaves in warmer areas. It has also been noted by many Aussie gardeners in recent years that native birds enjoy the fruit of the Chinese Elm.

Hebe

Wiri Mist Hebe is an attractive native shrub with green foliage and delicate white flowers in late spring - early summer. Mature growth: 50cm-1m hxw
