| Description | Leucadendron gandogeri
A medium-sized native shrub with pink-orange-yellow cone-shaped flowers with a red blush that appear from Spring, and soft feathery blue-grey foliage. Plant in full sun with well-drained soils. Frost and drought tolerant when established. It will reach 1.5m tall if un-pruned.

They are also called Giant Taro, large, glossy emerald green leaves up to one metre long held high. The striking leaves have prominent veining on the underside of the leaves and provide great swathes of colour contrast as a background to lower flower borders. Macrophylla perform best in a part shade position sheltered form the hot sun and wind with a rich, porous, moist soil. Dead head and prune to shape after flowering, Hydrangeas can be cut back quite hard if need be. Feed with an organic slow release fertiliser in late spring. White varieties do not change colour, no matter the pH.
