Pennyroyal, or pennyrile, also called squaw mint, mosquito plant and pudding grass, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family.
It is a stunning creeping herb that releases a mint aroma when walked on and produces light lavender flowers in summer. This herb has a significant medicinal history but is now not recommended to ingest. It is also reputed to provide insect repelling qualities e.g. to keep away fleas and mosquitoes. Pyrethrum is a hardy little plant, thriving in full sun positions, tolerating most soil types (except soggy soils) and requires moderate to low water once established. Prune after flowering to keep neat and to reduce spread as they can self sow their seeds after flowering.
