Description

Syzygium paniculatum 'Backyard Bliss'

Backyard Bliss hedge has superpowers! Because it's Insect and psyllid resistant, how amazing! Its a dense, glossy green leaved native shrub with coppery orange new growth. Great for hedging, doesn't need a lot of pruning and is fast growing.  This variety is a great choice as a dense screen around pools and small gardens or as a topiary. This evergreen has a narrow upright growth habit. Lovely clean glossy appearance that will make your yard a dream look out into. 20"/50cm pot size. These plants are currently on the shorter side as a result of the prolonged winter conditions. Despite this, they are healthy and well established, with an approximate height of 1.5 metres at present. Syzygium Backyard Bliss is highly susceptible to the Lilly Pilly Green Beetle. This Beatle is highly effective at stripping the leaves and foliage. We recommend the following varieties which are resistant to both Lilly Pilly Beetle and Psyllids: Acmena smithii Sublime, Acmena smithii 'minor' varieties, Acmena smithii Firescreen and Acmena smithii Green Screen.

Populus simonii fastigiata

Simon's Poplar (Chinese Poplar) is a fast growing fastigiate (upright) deciduous tree. It has green shiny leaves that are oval to diamond shaped, with a pale silvery underside. The leaves turn a yellow in the autumn months, before dropping off. Great for decidous screening and avenue plantings. Mature height 8-12m tall x 2-3m wide. 10"/25cm pot

Plectranthus caninus

Dogbane is a perennial herb from the mint family, which grows to about 15cm high, 30cm when in flower. When crushed, leaves have a very strong aroma, however dogs and cats are said to be able to smell the aroma from intact leaves and be repelled from the plant. This herb is also know as "scaredy cat plant". This plant prefers full sun to part shade, but may need more shade in very hot areas. If there is too much shade the plant becomes "leggy" with less foliage. It's frost tender so it needs a warm protected position to protect it from frost and hot sun, it's not suited to open conditions. Water young plants regularly, and once established older plants will tolerate short dry periods. It flowers in spring and summer. And this plant is also recommended for use as an insect repellent.
