Bananas are tropical plants, but there is a way to grow them in your Melbourne backyard: enter the Dwarf Cavendish! A beautiful compact banana plant, given the right conditions it can produce heavy crops of full sized, sweet bananas with a creamy texture, around 12 to 15 months from planting. As the the Dwarf Cavendish only reaches a height of around 1.5 to 2 meters (5 to 6.5 feet), it suitable for smaller gardens or containers and large pots also. It needs a sunny location with well-draining soil. Provide regular watering and ensure good soil fertility for optimal growth. While it can handle cooler temperatures, your Dwarf Cavendish may require some protection during severe frosts. Mulching around the base of the plant can help insulate the roots. Want delicious bananas that you grew yourself? These are a perfect choice. 8" pot size.

Platanus x acerifolia

The London Plane Tree is a very popular urban tree, due to its pollution tolerance. It has interesting patterned bark which comes off in irregular pieces to reveal different shades of brown and creamy white. London Plane trees are large and long lived, and will grow to heights of 20 metres or more. However certain pruning techniques can keep these trees under 5 metres tall. Pollarding is one of these, where the branches are cut back to the same point every year once the tree reaches a certain size. London Plane Trees are easily grown in well-drained soils and a position of full sunlight. They also tolerate light shade and makes a splendid shade tree. 10"/25cm pot size.
ContentThe Japanese Senkaki Maple is the only maple tree which provides beautiful vibrant colour all year round, with it’s bright coloured bark that really stands out in winter. This is why it is commonly known as Coral Bark Maple. The Senkaki Maple is a beautiful small tree and is one of the best examples of a Japanese maple, providing your garden with a lovely small feature tree as a centre piece. It grows approximately 4-5m wide and high. Light green foliage appears in spring then turns to classic autumn tones. As the leaves start to fall the stems of the trees turn to a “fire engine red” colour for winter. This superb tree makes a wonderful feature in any sheltered spot in the garden.
