Dichroa febrifuga (Blue evergreen hydrangea or Chinese quinine) is a compact, tropical evergreen shrub native from Nepal to China. It has glossy dark green leaves year-round and blooms in June–July with white-and-blue, hydrangea-like flowers. Its most notable feature is its attractive berries, which often persist into winter but may be hidden by foliage.
Note: Dichroa febrifuga and Dichroa versicolor are closely related evergreen shrubs, often called evergreen hydrangeas, known for their blue to pink flowers and metallic berries. Dichroa versicolor is typically larger with glossier leaves and deeper blue blooms, while Dichroa febrifuga (Chinese quinine) is smaller and has a history of medicinal use.
