Cornus mas is an outstanding highly ornamental shrub in the early spring, with the entire tree covered in masses of small yellow blossoms and Cherry-like fruits ripen in the late summer and early fall. Good for fresh eating as well as dried or made into preserves. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil and it will benefit from a pollinator.

Japanese flowering Quince are medium-sized, deciduous shrubs that will put on a beautiful display of flowers from late winter to mid-summer. Berries arrive after flowering time. They are edible but usually too bitter to eat directly from the bush. They are usually preserved for jams. It is happy in a wide range of conditions but is best situated in full sun in well-drained loamy soils. It is also able to tolerate windy and coastal areas and is frost tolerant!
